Fasting - Daniel Fast

The Daniel Fast . . .

. . . is a powerful spiritual experience to help followers of Jesus Christ develop a more intimate relationship with their Lord, seek answers to prayer, and grow in the love and knowledge of the Savior. There are two references to fasting in the biblical book of Daniel from which the "Daniel Fast" is drawn. Daniel chapter 1 describes how Daniel and his three friends ate only vegetables and drank only water. (Daniel 1) At the end of a ten day trial period, Daniel and his three friends appeared healthier than their peers who ate the rich foods from the royal table. In Daniel chapter 10, Daniel fasts again, abstaining from "choice food," meat, and wine. (Daniel 10)
You too, can gain a healthier body and clearer mind by following this fast in moderation

We fast to:

  • grow deeper in God
  •  grow in stature and increased vision
  •  grow in your ministry and influence
  •  grow stronger in character

The Daniel Fast is eating only fruits and vegetables for a certain amount of time, abstaining from meat products , sugar , fatty foods and white flour.
Read Daniel 1: 8 – 14  and Daniel 10: 2 – 3 (10 – 21 days)
Daniel’s prayer was answered by the power of fasting and prayer.

How to start the Fast
1 – 3 days before fasting begin to taper yourself off meat and caffeine
Certain people like diabetics may not be able to fast   from food, but they can fast from caffeine or TV programmes etc.

What to Expect
When you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results. You are following Jesus' example when you fast. Spend time listening to praise and worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God's face.

How to End
Don't overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food gradually; eat small portions or snacks
Please note there is a difference between Fasting and Starvation. Starvation is abstaining from food and Fasting is abstaining and praying in the times you would normally feed your natural man. You now build up your spirit man by feasting on the word which is the bread of life and thus will give you life and vitality during the fast so the more you pray and read the word the more you will be sustained.
God Bless and enjoy the fast!
